FTDM Launches Film Collective in a Splash of Pink

Michael DeLuca, the chairperson of Warner Bros, introduced the film.

Schieffer College’s Film, Television & Digital Media (FTDM) department launched their new FTDM Film Collective series this fall. The series aims to foster a more vibrant film community on TCU’s campus, and expose students to films that showcase a wide range of representations, voices, visions and viewpoints in contemporary cinema. The Film Collective is organized by a committee comprised of Kylo-Patrick Hart, Ph.D., Tricia Jenkins, Ph.D., Anne Major Ph.D., Charity Robinson and Jordan Schonig, Ph.D.

The premier screening for the FTDM Film Collective series featured Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” with an introduction from Michael DeLuca, the chairperson of Warner Bros. Audience. Members who attended the premiere enjoyed photo opportunities and movie snacks as they watched the film.

“’Barbie’ is a film that’s rich with opportunities to examine gender roles through a nostalgic lens that appeals to a broad audience,” Robinson said about why “Barbie” was chosen as the first film. “With the overwhelming success of ‘Barbie’ at the box office over the summer, we felt this film would have a large draw and be one that students were excited to see in a theater setting with their peers.”
